About

Founded in 2007 by Yovia, the Privacy Council was created for consumers who wish to limit the amount of junk mail and spam in their lives. We are a for-profit organization, however a portion of our profits go towards consumer protection, environmental protection and general research and development around online privacy, marketing efficiency and SPAM reduction.

We believe marketers should be able to do just that – market – but we also believe that you as a consumer should be educated about how your information is used and stored. We also believe that you as a consumer should play a role in how personal information is used by marketers across all types of media.

Since 2008, more than 30,000 consumers have used the Privacy Council to manage their privacy.

The Privacy Council helps consumers take care of their personal privacy settings. Much of the junk mail in the world comes from a few sources. When you request information form a company, or make a purchase, you can be added to their mailing lists – and your information can be sold or rented to other marketers.

The result: Lots of unwanted mail, email and phone calls.

As a consumer, you have a right to limit who contacts you. The problem for most people is that the process of managing one’s privacy settings can be time consuming and complicated.

The Privacy Council works to:

1. Provide ‘one stop’ for consumers who wish to remove their household from various call lists and mailing lists.

2. Monitor privacy law, violations and news related to online privacy, direct mail and telemarketing practices.

3. Aggregate consumers together on social networks to create ‘one voice’ for consumer privacy rights. You may join us on Facebook by electing to be notified of privacy news, security alerts and other related information here.

The Privacy Council is for-profit, however much of the profits go towards consumer education and protection. In addition there are filing fees that vary by agency.  All customer service is managed in partnership with HD Publishing, a leader in online billing, data management and customer service. 1. How do I unsubscribe to your service. I notice a $6.00 per month charge on my credit card.
I would rather throw away junk mail than spend $6.00 a month.
    Thank You,

    Bill King

    • I just called them and they told me that they’ll need my credit card so they can charge $9 for the service. WTH?? Are they for real?? I mean, okay. I understand that they have to call everyone to stop the junk mail but now that I’ve seen your comment on here, and thank god i did, I’m a little reluctant to do this. And you’re right. If they’re going to charge me $6 or $9 a month and, btw, the representative did not mention about a monthly charge, then forget it. Sounds like another scam. Too bad. I thought all URL domains that end with “.org” are all trustworthy. I could be wrong about this, but like i said… $9 to stop the junk mail???????? COME ON!

  2. I want to know how I unsubscribe, it is not working still getting a lot of junk mail for which you are chargeing me $6 a month.

  7. I am interested in this program, but I think it’s kind of shady that it isn’t mentioned anywhere how much it costs to subscribe to it. I am not entering any personal information or clicking any “remove me now” buttons until I fully understand what i’m agreeing to.

    • Hi, the initial cost is $9, part of which goes towards the actual filing fees. There is a $6 per month fee if you would like to use our centralized dashboard.

  8. i would not become a member of anything that gives no fee info.

  11. I went to log in and was told there was no record of me yet you sent me an e-mail telling me you took $9.00 out of my account and $6.00 each month thereafter.  Since Ive signed up with you I’ve gotten over 160 junk e-mails a day and at least 10 marketing calls a day.  I want a refund and my membership stopped immediately

  12. Just another scam. Pay a scammer to stop scammers. Absurd
