Rolling Stone magazine recently reported about a ring of hackers that really – well – kind of surprised me. I knew there were hackers everywhere. Most of these people are just playing around, trying to see what computers they can ‘hack’ into. In reality, computers – and the web, are not secure. If you know what you are doing, you can get into just about any network.
Of course, the FBI watches this closely, including watching the people who have the skills to get past the most secure networks in the world. One such hacker named Albert Gonzalez.

Albert Gonazalez
Albert, and a group of hackers called ShawdowCrew, were recently caught stealing more than 170 million ATM numbers, getting pin numbers (somehow) and then withdrawing cash all over the world. They netted millions and it costs banks hundreds of millions.
The point: Nothing online is totally secure. Your best defense is to monitor your credit, including charges to your credit cards. While criminals may be able to get your information, whether or not they are able to do anything with it is up to you.
